Self–myofascial release (also known as fascia release or self-massage) is a practice that deeply compliments yoga asana and other movement modalities. It has the profound effects of calming your nervous system, improving your mobility and the power to reduce pain. It is a self-care skill that will benefit and enhance the rest of your life.

What makes this course unique:
Your instructor, Dr Ariele Foster, has a unique perspective on fascia as a yoga teacher and movement educator of 20 years and a practicing Doctor of Physical Therapy.

While you experience self-massage, she explains the latest knowledge and nuance on the science of fascia and optimal movement.

This is our signature self-myofascial release course. It has been taught and refined since 2013.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Another way to describe myofascial release is self-massage. Just like after a good massage, we hope you enjoy a lightness, freedom and sense of renewal in your body. You may also notice improved flexibility or mobility, and reduction of pain.

This course opens with an introduction to the vast world of tools for myofascial release. You do not need to buy all of them or any of them, but you will get an idea if some tools are tempting enough to be worth the investment. In most cases, you can complete this course with household items like tennis or lacrosse balls, a rolling pin or a water bottle wrapped in a towel. If you want to get the good stuff, we recommend RAD products and Aquanimous (cork products).

This course is for everybody. No previous experience is required. ALL BODIES / ALL AGES ARE WELCOME, and no yoga experience is required. Some positions require ability to lie on your back or on your abdomen.

YES! 7 CEU hours are available (downloadable certificate at the completion of the course) for Yoga Alliance-registered teachers and Yoga Therapists through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Check with your other accrediting bodies for continuing education credits for personal trainers, physical and occupational therapists, and others.

How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like – across any and all devices you own. The course starts whenever you start it and it ends when you stop. It is a completely self-paced online course – you decide when you start and when you finish.

The course “Fascia Release for Yoga“, also taught by Dr. Ariele Foster and filmed and hosted by Yoga Journal, is a fantastic course. It’s primary aim is pairing fascia release with yoga poses, many of which require substantial mobility, and the fascia release helps the yogi to achieve it.

This course, Way of the Happy Fascia, does not emphasize or teach yoga poses. It focuses comprehensively on how to perform fascia release for the whole body to compliment a yoga practice (or just having a body). The goal of this course? To feel good. It’s not about getting deeper into yoga poses. It also covers more of the tools, the science and history of fascia release. This course contains more of the therapeutic tips and techniques of fascia release and is more accessible to more people.

We have made substantial portions of this course downloadable – so that you can easily access your certificate, have an audio portion to continue learning while offline, and even print PDFs. For that reason, refunds are not offered for this course. Your purchase of the course indicates your understanding of this policy.

I started with this course when Ariele was offering CEUs/certification at a retreat in Colombia. Hands down, one of the best decisions I ever made. Yes, it was smart to treat myself to some Colombia birthday and New Year’s action, but really the reason that clinched the retreat for me was to take her course on myofascial release."

I highly recommend Way of the Happy Fascia. Ariele teaches the science of myofascial release in a way that is easy to understand. Doing these practices helps so much with my hip and calf tightness, and really everywhere in my body. I really enjoyed it!!"

Before It Was The "Way of the Happy Fascia"

I started with this course when Ariele was offering CEUs/certification at a retreat in Colombia. Hands down, one of the best decisions I ever made. Yes, it was smart to treat myself to some Colombia birthday and New Year’s action, but really the reason that clinched the retreat for me was to take her course on myo-fascial release. Absolutely I nerd out on things and Ariele is a steady supplier of nerdy yoga, myo-fascial goodness for me. She has since expanded the course and it is chock full of the good nuggets. I was gearing up to offer my own myo-fascial release workshop and completely re-took the course, Way of the Happy Fascia (has a fancy name now), to solidify what I had previously learned. Ariele and her courses always deliver. We took our 500hr certificates together way back when, but Ariele has an incredible wealth of experience as a teacher and her work as a Doctor of Physical Therapy just adds layer of body knowledge that I can’t get anywhere else. She has invested so much of her time to the body, mind and soul. Her work is thoughtful, open, but rooted in science and what is a realistic dose of practicality. But what I think makes her unique in the world of bodies and medicine and movement, is that she evolves with what she learns/experiences and adjusts her teachings to reflect that information instead of holding tight to some outdated research. But back to fascia, Way of the Happy Fascia has a ton of great information, applicable information, and structured in a way that you can easily navigate. Ariele has made it easy to learn and easy to go back and learn again. There are a lot of courses out there and lots of teachers, but Ariele is that hidden indie gem that makes her extra awesome. She can back up her teachings with experience and science, and honestly, she is just genuine folks. Learn about fascia, learn about anatomy, learn whatever you can from her.
