Downward Facing Dog: Oh yes, "this old dog." The pose that yoga teachers LOVE to call "a resting pose".
For many, Down Dog is the OPPOSITE of a resting pose.
It is a constant triceps contraction, yanking on their poor hamstrings.
What if a few techniques involving:
- self massage (self myofascial release)
- specific muscular actions
- and targeted warm ups...
...could make the lives of stiff boyfriends, yoga teachers and regular folks everywhere better?
Join this workshop if:
But you would like a glimmer of hope...
The student whose body looks more like a sideways comma than an inverted triangle...
That alone is a great reason to join this workshop
You will want the following props on hand:
- Tennis ball or self myofascial release ball like the Atom or the Recovery Rounds or the Duo from RAD Roller.
- Foam roller if you have access to one. If not, I suggest using a rolling pin (like for baking) with a towel wrapped around it -- possibly secured with duct tape (awkward but doable)
- Optional Yoga strap
Of course, also a yoga mat and a curious mind.
This workshop will last approximately one hour, and will be mostly a mat based self-massage / yoga / movement practice (not much lecture.
CEUs: this workshop provides 1 hour of yoga anatomy continuing education and certificates will be sent out to participants afterward.
Recording: workshop recording will be provided for 14 days afterward. For those who enroll via purchase of Way of the Happy Fascia online course, you will have permanent access to this recording.
Founder of Yoga Anatomy Academy, Physical Therapist, Yoga Teacher
Ariele is naturally a flexible and yoga-loving human, but even she has a love-hate relationship with Downward Facing Dog.
Myofascial release became her obsession even before physical therapy school, and in 2013 she started teaching self massage publicly in yoga studios -- not just to patients.
More information on her physical therapy practice (virtual and in person in DC) can be found at wellilo.com.
